    I have a question, can the general assembly or the security council remove the Secretary General from office for violating the rules of the position?

    • @NoahZerbe
      @NoahZerbe 2 дня назад

      That's a great question! There is technically no recall (or no confidence) procedure to remove the Secretary-General before the normal end of their term. However, a couple of caveats. First, some legal theories suggest that the power of the Security Council to recommend and the General Assembly to confirm the SG's appoint suggests that they could use the same process to withdraw their approval (and thus remove the SG) using the same process. That said, a Secretary-General that reached the point that a 2/3 majority of both the GA and the SC, and the 5 permanent members agree (which is what would be required to remove them), would be so unpopular and face so much pressure that they would most likely resign their position before any vote actually took place. Hope that helps clarify!

    One question, the president is required to be natural in line of successionborn and 35 years old, yet there are no such qualifications after the VP. If an individual is either born in a foreign country or not 35, does this invalidate their place in the succession?

    • @NoahZerbe
      @NoahZerbe 2 дня назад

      That's an interesting question. It's obviously never happened (and given the average age of most politicians in the line of succession, likely never will). If it were to arise, it would likely lead to legal challenges that the Supreme Court would weigh in on. But I suspect the person in that position in the line of succession would be skipped over in favor of the next person in the line of succession that met the requirements of the office (at least 35 and a natural born citizen). Hope that help!

    Hi Noah, quick question, is neorealism and structural realism the same thing? basically just 2 names for the same thing.

    • @NoahZerbe
      @NoahZerbe 16 дней назад

      Yes, they are essentially the same thing and are often used interchangeably. Though neorealism can be used to emphasize the broader theoretical framework (essentially as an umbrella term), while structural realism is sometimes used to emphasize the systemic and structural aspects of the theory (especially with respect to the constraints imposed by the anarchic nature of the international system). But that's probably too much in the weeds, and in practice, they're normally used interchangeably.

    Constructivism bites holes in this construct as well as liberalism. This division becomes barely adequate given the underhanded pressures guiding and suppressing indoctrination as a social norm. Instead of the informed reasoning found in peace and unity. Control and economic favor are the intrinsic goal within this attempt of implied realism

    Taiwan and Penghu are leftover issues from World War II. See Treaty of San Francisco. At the time, the U.S. government helped the Chinese Nationalist Party (Republic of China), which had been defeated in the Chinese Civil War, escape to Taiwan, which was then a Japanese colony. Look at Formosa betrayed. Formosa is the original name of Taiwan. After the Chinese Kuomintang came to Taiwan, it still maintained dictatorial rule, but moved towards democracy under pressure from the United States, and the Taiwanese entered the Republic of China to fight for their rights. The Chinese who lost their privileges in Taiwan united with the People's Republic of China to steal Taiwan and Penghu.

    Regarding California's fast food wage hike to $20 from $16, a worker at McDonalds told me the franchise owner cut hours -- especially overtime hours which was $24 and now is $30, nobody was laid off, the prices were not increased, the restaurant didn't go out of business, and the workers are happier as they have a bigger paycheck without working overtime hours to pay their bills. You could even guess that the only major change is that the workers have to work more efficiently -- but they are able to due to not being as tired having 8 hour shifts rather than 12 hour shifts. Or 32 hour weeks compared to 40 hour weeks. And they are willing to work more efficiently as well because they are happier. If the restaurant owner is even halfway decent with math, they'll see that they can solve the problem by cutting hours not jobs. I have a b.s. in business from hsu, but if i wanted to propose a masters thesis in econ, it might be "less hours and higher pay = no change to profitability due to workers working more efficiently from being less tired and happier." And i am guessing if salaried workers were given 32 hour work weeks (fridays or mondays off w 3 day weekends) at the same pay and benefits, they'd work harder as well, also resulting in no change in profit.

    • @roseroses7576

    • @NoahZerbe
      @NoahZerbe 16 дней назад

      Sorry, but that's not correct. Civilians actually serve in a number of capacities for peacekeeping missions, including as Civilian Affairs Officers (engaging with local communities to promote reconciliation and social cohesion), Human Rights Officers (monitoring and reporting on human rights conditions and working to build local capacity for the protection of human rights), Political Affairs Officers (analyzing political developments and providing strategic advice of mission leadership), Legal Officers (assisting in the establishment of legal frameworks and supporting judicial processes in the host country), and Public Information Officers (managing the mission's communications strategies and liaising with the media). They also provide humanitarian assistance, administrative and logistical support, etc. In total, civilian personnel comprise 10-20% of the total personnel on peacekeeping missions, though this can vary widely depending on the type of mission.

    Since resources on planet Earth are finite, it makes more sense that we use Relative gains because after the agreement is done, the other country would have more purchasing power than us, meaning that they would be able to outperform our economy, out-buying resources or whatever in the free market, which ultimately puts us at a disadvantage. Resources are finite and therefore Earth IS a zero-sum game.
